Forthcoming Events-
2nd-4th May 2008: Church Weekend at Shilbottle
Our very own Church Weekend away will have a key difference. We're staying at home! Well, Level-x our youth group will be camping overnight but the rest of us will journey to Shilbottle each day as we are recting a large marquee in the grounds of Dene House. Our guests will be Dave & Rosie Fellingham from Church of Christ the King, Brighton, and the weekend includes an bar-b-q follwed by fun day on the beach on the Saturday afternoon so we're hoping for good weather.
Dave & Rosie joined Clarendon Church – now Church of Christ the King – back in 1979 and Dave has been an elder there alongside Terry Virgo and others ever since. He has been central to the development of the rich collection of worship leaders at Brighton - Paul Oakley, Stuart Townend, Kate Simmonds and the Phatfish band, and is internationally recognised as a songwriter, worship leader and conference speaker. He has authored two books, 'Worship Restored' and 'To the Praise of His Glory'. Rosie keeps Dave organised, assists in counselling and hospitality, and is alongside him in his various travels and activities. They have two sons and four grandchildren.
More information and the full programme are available from the information table at our Sunday morning meetings, or from one of the County Church leaders.
Saturday 24th May 2008: Wine & Cheese Evening
Our next social event will be a cheese and wine evening with a special focus on arts and crafts. More information will be available soon.
21st - 25th August 2008: 'North 08' Weekend in Yorkshire
On this weekend we will be joining all the other Newfrontiers churches across the region for a Bible weekend in Yorkshire, with special guest Dave Holden from South East London. Camp on site in your own tent or caravan or stay in a local Bed & Breakfast. The weekend includes plenty of social activities and a return of the much loved "Going Bananas" kids teams.
Recent Events-
Sunday March 2nd 2008: Mother's Day Special Meeting
Our Mother's Day special meeting including special contributions from both a Mum and a Mum-to-be, and a fascinating insight into the two quite different approaches to bringing up children found in the Bible from Rebecca, who was Jacob's Mum, and Eunice who was Timothy's Mum. The meeting finished with a small gift for all the ladies present, though the more observant would have noticed quite a few men munching some delicous hand made chocolates from Oxleys of Morpeth as well.
Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th March 2008 - Old Testament from Scratch with John Hosier
Experienced Bible Teacher and author John Hosier from Church of Christ the King led us in a breathtaking summary of the entire Old Testament in just 2 evenings. Starting with Genesis and ending with Malachi (well actually he briefly covered the period between the Old and New Testaments as well) John covered the key themes and stories of the Old Testament.
Saturday 16th February 2008 - Ceilidh
Close on 100 people gathered for our first ever but bound to be repeated Celidh. The occassion was Valentines Day and to mark this the evening included a "Mr & Mrs" quiz featuring some well known couples from the Church
This was also the first social event we have held at Bedlington Community Centre - the same place we hold our Sunday morning meetings. Friends and guests told us it was a most enjoyable night and are keen to know when our next event will be held.
Sunday 13th January 2008 - Jazz, Blues & Ballads Evening
This followed our highly successful Jazz night the previous summer, and once again Movies Bar in Front Street Bedlington was packed to capacity - this time to the slightly different tone of Jazz, Blues and Ballads, brought to us by Quintessential, featuring the contrasting work of artists and songwriters such as: Diana Krall, Nat 'King' Cole, Eva Cassidy, Hoagy Carmichael, Fleetwood Mac and Norah Jones.
Another hugely enjoyable evening with great music and a relaxing atmosphere.
Sunday 23rd December 2007 - Christmas Family Special
For the second year running, we had a truly amazing Christmas family special. Lots of guests, lots of mince pies, and a family nativity drama involving all the children, all the young people, and quite a full adults as well. Despite a good number from the church being included in the cast, Bedlington Communnity Centre was once again packed to capacity as friends and neighbours joined us to watch the amazing play, followed by a short talk from John Wilthew on the real meaning of Christmas.
