COMING UP
July:
July 19th: County Church meeting at the Working Men's Club in Shilbottle: 4.15 pm for tea and doughnuts, starting 4.30 and finishing at 5.30 pm
Sundays at County Church in August: Lively family worship with children and young people in throughout, exploring the theme: 'Punching Above Your Weight" from the David and Goliath story. Come and join us on 2nd, 9th, 16th, or 23rd if you are on holiday in the area! But there will be no meeting at Bedlington Community Centre on Sunday 30th August because of our involvement in the Newfrontiers NORTH 09 churches camp over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
THIS YEAR – SO FAR
June:
Aln Valley: On Sunday, 21st we launched our first monthly Sunday afternoon meeting in the Aln Valley District at the Working men's Club in Shilbottle.
Baptisms: On Sunday, 14th three of our number were baptised as believers with lots of guests present to witness this. Trinity Church (just up the road from where we meet in Bedlington) kindly allowed us to use their baptistry.
May:
Our Gift Day on the 17th was to fund one of our young men who will be serving the church from September in a Year of training. It was also to enable us to contribute to the costs of three of our young people who are going on short overseas ministry trips this summer. Our target was £6,000 - which was far exceeded!
April:
On Sunday 5th we held a special Guest morning exploring the theme: “Everyone Has Questions” - with a mix of music, film, songs by Jenny Calvert, an interview with the Oxleys of Morpeth, and a special guest speaker, Grantley Watkins from Norfolk.
March:
Saturday night was Quiz Night on 28th at Bedlington Community Centre, with teams battling it out for the honour (and prizes) of victory.
February:
We launched a home Alpha on Wednesday evenings in Morpeth. If you are interested in our next one or would like us to come your way and start one just get in touch with Dennis: 01670 825500
What does it mean to develop a prophetic culture in a church like ours?
Phil Wilthew from City Church Newcastle joined us for the evening on Thursday 26th to help us think this through biblically and practically.
‘The Steels’, a local band, led our worship on 15th. They are great lads – we recommend them enthusiastically! If you want to put on a gospel concert or do something exciting in a local school or you want a fresh lead at a worship event – consider getting in touch with them. But please remember - because this is their full-time work they are funded by gifts and fees received. They recently launched the Steels Trust. Check them out on www.the-steels.com
On Sunday morning in January and February, in 10 minute snapshots, we focussed on some of our plans for 2009 as we seek to move forward in our church planting mission in the county.
January:
John Wilthew began a new Sunday morning teaching series in Paul’s letter to the Colossians: ‘Audacious Hope in a Mixed-Up Culture.’
We were delighted to start the year by handing over a cheque for £2,110 to the Morpeth Churches Action Group to support the work of helping victims of the local floods last September. This amount was raised from contributions at our 2008 Christmas Special.
