What is your worldview?

A 'worldview' is the sum total of your beliefs about the world and life in general. It is a set of beliefs that hang together; the big picture.

Are you even aware of having a worldview?

Someone's worldview can be analysed by their answers to 3 basic questions.

1. Where did we come from, and who are we?
2. What has gone wrong with the world?
3. What can we do to fix it?

Ask yourself these questions and you will begin to understand your own worldview. You can test these questions out on the following worldview.

The Worldview of Naturalism

This is predominant in the secular west. On BBC television it is typified by David Attenborough's body of work. 'Naturalism' believes that natural causes alone are sufficient to explain everything that exists. There is no place for God. This worldview is materialistic & analytical.

1. Where did we come from? Out of the slime. Impersonal primordial matter. And who are we? Naked Apes. Accidents of evolution.
2. What has gone wrong with the world? Lack of resources, opportunity, ignorance, inequality.
3. What can we do to fix it? Educate people, improve their environment.

Many in the west would say they don't have a worldview, but in fact they have absorbed the worldview of naturalism without realizing it. And everything is affected by it. Your worldview becomes a total life system.

What about Christians? Do they have a worldview too?

Christians have a Biblical Worldview. This is how the Bible answers these same three questions.

1. Where did we come from & who are we? We are the deliberate creation of a loving purposeful God, made in His image to reflect His nature.
2. What has gone wrong with the world? Sin. Man mutinied from God and this is the cause of hatred & strife, as well as decay and turmoil in the created world.
3. What can we do to fix it? We can do nothing. But God has done something. He has come into this fallen world in the Person of Jesus Christ, through whom and for whom the whole universe was Created in the first place. And as we believe in Him & are united to Him we are reconciled to God and filled with His Holy Spirit. and begin to see His image restored in us. One day the whole of creation will be made new again
