PERSONAL STORIES
Lynn's
Story
In
the early 1990's I was a career woman in my twenties with a good
job, good prospects and my own flat. Everything was looking good.
But
under the surface was an undercurrent that wasn't so optimistic.
I suffered from a nagging loneliness that wouldn't go away despite
a crowd of good friends and a busy social life. I tried sports,
night classes, holidays and drinking lots on a Friday night! Nothing
seemed to fill the gap.
At
the beginning of 1992 I found myself alone and pregnant, and everything
seemed to unravel. In the autumn I had a lovely daughter but this
meant that I wasn't getting enough sleep and I couldn't keep up
with my demanding job. I was out of my depth and unhappy.
After
six months of this I was invited by my sister to a guest service
at a local church and I went because it would have seemed rude to
refuse. The preacher spoke about how it felt to be separated from
God by sin, and as I listened I realised that he was describing
how I felt - empty and lonely. He told me how Jesus had died to
repair my friendship with God and then he gave an opportunity to
make Jesus central in my life again. I took it, deciding to put
God back in the place where He should have always been.
Since
becoming a Christian many things have changed. I gave up my job
and re-trained; I met a wonderful man and married him, and we now
have three more fantastic children. But accepting Jesus is not a
magical route to a trouble free life. There have been times of stress
when money has been short; one of our children has autism; we have
sat at a hospital bedside watching our child battle meningitis.
There have been many challenges.
Jesus
never promised a perfect life on earth but we watch His plan for
our lives unfold confident that His love and His strength will always
see us through. In addition, we are promised an eternity in a perfect
heaven because Jesus decided to die for us, and we don't think we
could have a brighter future than that.
